A Guide to Modem Friendly Campgrounds
As A Winding Road (formerly Cruising America!), we travel the United States, Canada and beyond, posting online travel information and photos of businesses, events and sights we encounter along the way.
Publishers of over a dozen online Internet guides for travel and business, we roam the interstate highways and back roads, reporting on people, places and events of our world. Based in Wyoming, we live fulltime (along with our chocolate cocker spaniel, Lexxus), in our 22-foot motorhome, The Eagle II. We are always on the lookout for RV Parks and Campgrounds who offer Instant/On Arrival phone service or have a centrally located modem!
Our finds have now been compiled into this website to help all the RVers out there who want to STAY CONNECTED while they travel! We have used our “list” extensively over the past several years and hope that it will prove helpful to you as well.
ABOUT THE LISTINGS
We have only included campgrounds that, by OUR definition, are modem friendly.
When we arrive at a park to stay, a modem friendly campground will offer us SOME WAY to check our email and possibly upload a few files to our server. This can be a centrally located phone line in the office, laundry room, recreation hall, game room or even at a pay telephone.
INSTANT, ON-ARRIVAL phone hookups at our campsite are, of course, our preference! As with anyone who works as they travel, staying connected is uppermost in our priorities. An instant phone hookup means that we do NOT have to contact the local phone company to activate the phone line. We can just plug in our phone cord and get to work……minutes after we have set up camp! We have found over 440 campgrounds with these "HOT" sites.
Nearly all campgrounds now offer phone service through the local phone company. We don’t consider having ONLY that option available as modem friendly. Parks which are both modem friendly AND offer monthly connections have been identified in this CD, but those who only offer phone connections through the local telephone company have not been included.
This site is organized by state or province, then city, then alphabetically by the campground name.

We do not claim that this is a complete and total listing of all modem friendly campgrounds. During our research for this guide, we contacted thousands of RV Parks and Campgrounds. Some have responded with updated information, others have not. We gathered our information from the internet, email newsgroups, libraries, current printed directories, military installations, civil service areas, county service areas, BLM parks, National, State and Local Parks, fairgrounds, Chambers of Commerce and our own personal experience over the years.
