STAY CONNECTED!
A Guide to Modem Friendly Campgrounds

Folks Are Talking!

Out West Newspaper:
An essential piece of equipment for many of today's RVers is a personal computer. And for most of these folks, its main function is to send and receive email and to browse the World Wide Web.

The problem is that most campgrounds do not provide a place for these RVers to plug in their computer's modems. So where does an RVer stay if he or she wants to access the Internet? Until now, no comprehensive directory has listed such "modem friendly" campgrounds.

Thankfully, full-time RVers Mike Hinkle and Cindy Michaels have published a guide to put an end to the guessing game of where to stay to get online. Their new book and CD-ROM, "A Guide to Over 4,600 Modem Friendly Campgrounds," provides a one-stop resource, spelling out what type of hookup is available at each campground.

For RVers who want to stay "connected," while on the road, this new book is an essential reference. No other guidebook offers even a fraction of the listings of this 122-page guide, published in 2001.

The Philadelphia Inquirer:
Wired campers. Checking e-mail in hotels or airports keeps getting easier, but what if you are cross-country camping? Worry not: Many campgrounds are now wired, and you can locate them in a guide called "Stay Connected: A Guide to Modem-Friendly Campgrounds." It describes more than 4,600 campgrounds nationwide that provide a dataport in the office, laundry room or rec room for plugging in your laptop.

The guide also notes 460+ places where RVers can reserve a "hot site" with instant access to a phone line. Cindy Michaels & Mike Hinkle of Brownsville, TX, the guide's producers, said a hot site usually costs $2 to $6 more per night than a full hookup site without a line. The book lists campgrounds by state with address, e-mail address and Web site if available, and an indication of what type of computer hookup is available. It's available in printed form for $20 or as a CD-ROM disk for $25. Details are at www.allcampgrounds.com/modembook.html.
